St Andrew's Church

As recorded in the Doomsday Book, there has been a church in Brockley since Saxon times.  When our current beautiful little church was built in the 12th century, Brockley Village was located near it and the medieval moated Brockley Hall. 

We cannot be certain why the village moved to its present location, but it was possibly following the Black Death of 1349.  To the NE of the church is another moated area, possibly the site of the former Priest’s house.

St Andrews was supposedly designed by Alexander de Walsham.  The name of another benefactor, Ricardus Coppynge appears at the bottom of the tower.

In 1866, the church was restored and rearranged but most of its ancient features remain including the 14th century door with its original knocker.

To appreciate St Andrews, you must visit it.  It is never locked.  Better still, please join us at one of our services which are held on the second, third and fourth Sundays of every month.
